Discover Limassol, the largest city of Cyprus.
Limassol (Lemesos) is the second largest city of Cyprus and it is main tourist and business centre on the island. Since the crusades of the Middle Ages, Limassol has been known to traders for its wine and sugar cane, Richard the Lion-heart, freed noblewoman Berengaria of Navarre and married in Limassol, crowning her Queen of England.
The town has grown in recent years and now covers more than 15 kilometres coastline lined with luxury hotels and apartment blocks, linked by a promenade popular with walkers or joggers.
Locals are famous for their love of fun so not surprisingly the city's nightlife is varied. All sorts of taverns, discos and clubs are open all the year round, while beach bars and coffee shops along the coastal walkway add to the choice. Join locals at the Wine Festival in September, or have fun at the Carnival with its fancy dress parade and parties in February, or enjoy a summer concert under the stars in the Greco-Roman theatre of Kourion.
